Those who've seen my rantings here on Daily Kos know that as I'm an atheist, I have little patience for religion at all. I agree with the sentiment that it is "easily weaponized superstitious hokum."
But I do have quite a bit of affinity towards the Unitarian-Universalist Church. That's mostly because the members I've met are incredibly nice people, and almost always awesome progressives, but also because about half of them are also atheists, and are there for the community. It's the good parts of church, but set up in a way that I can disregard the woo.
So this is a little personal for me. A group of anti-abortionists just pulled a Fred Phelps...
